Points get all the attention. Booking windows get all the debates. But the thing quietly draining your account — the one nobody talks about at the sales presentation — is Housekeeping Credits.
They're the hidden tax on flexibility. Every time you check into a resort, you use one. Run out, and you're buying more out of pocket. And unlike points, you can't borrow them from next year.
How Housekeeping Credits Work
When you purchase a Wyndham timeshare, your contract includes a fixed number of Housekeeping Credits (HK Credits) per year. Each time you make a reservation and check in, one HK Credit is consumed — regardless of whether you stay 1 night or 7 nights. This creates a hidden math problem:
- One 7-night stay = 1 HK Credit used
- Seven 1-night stays = 7 HK Credits used
- Same total nights, 7x the HK cost
The implication is clear: short, frequent stays are expensive in HK terms. Owners who take weekend getaways burn through credits far faster than owners who take longer vacations.
The No-Borrowing Rule
📋 Program Rule Extract
Housekeeping Credits cannot be borrowed from future years. Unlike points (which can be deposited or borrowed in some programs), your HK allocation is use-it-or-lose-it within the current year.
This is the rule that catches owners off guard. With points, you have flexibility — deposit to next year, convert to maintenance dollars, book for a guest. With HK Credits, once they're gone, your only option is to purchase additional credits at the current rate.
Biennial Owners: The Half-Year Problem
📋 Program Rule Extract
For biennial contracts, Housekeeping Credits are allocated only on the years you receive your points. In off-years, you get zero HK Credits.
⚠️ Off-Year Booking Trap
Biennial owners who borrowed points into their off-year can use those points to book reservations — but they'll have no HK Credits to cover those stays. Every check-in will require purchasing additional HK Credits out of pocket. Factor this cost into your borrowing strategy.
CWSP: Unlimited Housekeeping for Platinum+
This is where CWSP owners get a massive structural advantage:
📋 Program Rule Extract
Complimentary housekeeping at CWSP resorts requires a minimum 4-night stay for Gold members. Platinum and above members receive unlimited complimentary housekeeping at Club Wyndham South Pacific Resorts.
💎 CWSP Platinum = No HK Worries
If you're a CWSP Platinum or 100 Club member, the entire HK credit system becomes irrelevant for CWSP resort stays. You can take as many short trips as you want without worrying about credit depletion. CWUS has no equivalent for current VIP members — only Legacy VIP members may retain unlimited credits.
| Feature | Club Wyndham US | Club Wyndham South Pacific |
|---|---|---|
| Can borrow from next year | No | No |
| Biennial allocation | Points years only | N/A (annual credits) |
| Unlimited credits tier | Legacy VIP only | Platinum and above ✅ |
| Per-night vs per-stay | Per reservation (1 credit) | Per reservation (1 credit) |
| Purchase additional | Yes (current rate) | Yes (current rate) |
The Modification Workaround
Here's a strategy experienced owners use: instead of making a new reservation (which costs an HK Credit),modify an existing reservationto add or change nights. Modifications to an existing booking don't always consume an additional HK Credit — you're changing the reservation, not creating a new one.
The key qualifier: this depends on the type of modification and resort policy. Always confirm with Owner Services before assuming a modification is HK-free.
The HK Credits Survival Playbook
- Consolidate trips. Fewer, longer stays are HK-efficient. A 5-night trip uses the same 1 credit as a 2-night trip.
- Modify, don't rebook. Extending a stay via modification may avoid consuming an extra credit.
- Plan biennial years carefully. If you're borrowing points into an off-year, budget for purchased HK Credits.
- CWSP owners: Aim for Platinum tier if HK costs are significant — unlimited credits changes the entire calculus.
- Track your balance. Know exactly how many HK Credits you have remaining before booking short stays.
