Points About to Expire? 7 Ways to Save Them (That Wyndham Won't Tell You)

From the $0.0021/point maintenance dollar conversion to CWSP's 2-year credit banking — every rescue option ranked.

It's the email every timeshare owner dreads: "Your Use Year is ending. Unused points will be forfeited." Suddenly you're scrambling to book a trip you don't need, deposit to RCI at a terrible exchange rate, or worse — watch thousands of dollars in value simply disappear.

Here's the thing: Wyndham built at least seven different escape hatches into the program rules. Most owners know about one or two. The full list — especially the cross-club differences — is where the real leverage lives.

Strategy 1: Points Deposit (Move to Next Year)

📋 Program Rule Extract

The Points Deposit Feature allows Members to place all or a portion of their current Use Year points into a future Use Year for use at Club Wyndham resort locations.

This is the most straightforward rescue: move this year's points into next year. But timing matters:

📋 Program Rule Extract

You can deposit points during the first 3 months of your Use Year. VIP members receive additional time to deposit — which makes the deadline less stressful for higher-tier owners.

⚠️ Deposits Are Final

According to the points deposit finality policy, once you deposit points into a future Use Year, the transaction is permanent. You cannot un-deposit. Plan accordingly.

Strategy 2: Speculative Booking (The Free Option)

If your points are about to expire, book a reservation — any reservation. As long as the check-in date falls within your current Use Year, the points are "used." Then, if you truly can't travel, cancel 15+ days before check-in for a full refund. The refunded points come back, but you've bought yourself time to rethink your strategy.

This is completely within the rules. It's not a hack — it's how options work.

Strategy 3: The Maintenance Dollar Conversion (CWUS Only)

📋 Program Rule Extract

Points are converted to Maintenance Dollars at the rate of $0.0021 per point. Each conversion requires a Reservation Transaction.

💎 The Hidden Value of Maintenance Dollars

Most owners dismiss this conversion rate as too low. But consider: if you have 100,000 expiring points, that's $210 off your maintenance fees. That's $210 you would have lost entirely. It's not glamorous, but it's guaranteed value — and it's exclusive to CWUS. CWSP has no equivalent conversion program.

Strategy 4: Charitable Gift Program

📋 Program Rule Extract

If you have at least 3 monthsto use your points and know you can't travel, you can gift all or some of your points to the Charitable Gift program.

This doesn't save your points for personal use, but it converts what would be a total loss into a charitable donation — which may have tax implications worth discussing with your accountant.

Strategy 5: Deposit to RCI

You can deposit points to your RCI account, extending their usable life. But there are constraints:

Strategy 6: Book for Others (Guest Confirmations)

Can't travel yourself? Book a stay and add a guest. Club Wyndham allows Guest Confirmations — you use your points, and someone else checks in. The fee is $49 per confirmation.

⚠️ Guest Confirmations Are Nonrefundable

According to the guest confirmation policies, changing the guest name on a confirmation requires purchasing a new Guest Confirmation. Be sure to add the correct name the first time.

Strategy 7: CWSP Credit Banking (2-Year Lifespan)

📋 Program Rule Extract

CWSP Premier Owners have a Vacation Credit lifespan of two years, and can carry over credits to the next year. This is fundamentally different from CWUS, where points expire at the end of the Use Year without the Points Deposit feature.

💎 The CWSP Advantage

CWSP's 2-year credit lifespan is arguably the single biggest structural advantage over CWUS. You get double the time to use your credits, with banking built into the base program. CWUS owners need VIP status to get extended deposit windows — CWSP Premier Owners get it automatically.
